A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the stabbing of a man Wednesday in Boston's Downtown Crossing during the morning commute, police said.The incident happened just after 8 a.m. at Washington and Winter streets. The victim, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to a local hospital.Calvin Spencer, 33, of Boston, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and will be arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court on Thursday. He was also charged on outstanding warrants of larceny over $250 and failure to register as a sex offender.Boston police said the victim’s injuries have been upgraded and he is expected to survive."It's not like he was a bad kid, at all by any means, He was humble, quiet, kept to himself," said Greg Levalley. The stabbing happened steps away from several businesses and an MBTA station."We do not need that in the city. There’s kids and other people. We want the city to be safe," said Roselaine Toussaint, of Boston."Residents, workers and tourists continue to tell me they no longer feel safe in Downtown Crossing and Boston Common," Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn posted on social media. "With several permitted events already scheduled in Boston Common, I’m recommending these events not take place. Many parts of Boston Common are no longer safe!"Business owners and residents have raised concerns about recent incidents of violence, including a shooting that injured two people last month on Summer Street."It has been a largely safe year but with a couple of incidents that really concern us," said Michael Nichols, the president of the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District."Those numbers are much lower than what other cities are experiencing," said Mayor Michelle Wu.The mayor said violence needs to end not just here, but across the city.
